Day 01: Arrival in Paro

http://www.elandholidays.com/bhutan/images/paro.jpgOn arrival at Paro’s International airport, you will be received by eLand Holidays representative who will assist your transfer to the hotel reserved for you. Check in and relax for a while. Later in the afternoon, you will be driven to explore the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, located 18 km from Paro town. This site witnessed several rebels from Bhutanese against the invasion of the Tibetan armies during 17th century. When the sky is clear, the site of the splendid peak of mount Jumolhari (Goddess Mountain) can be grasped. Evening will be at leisure. Explore the town, interact with the locals or just walk around.

Overnight will be at the hotel.

Day 02: Paro - Thimphu

http://www.elandholidays.com/bhutan/images/thimphu.jpgAfter breakfast at the hotel, check out and proceed towards your next destination Thimpu. On your way you will visit Paro Rinpong Dzong. Constructed in the year 1646, this fort now serves as the administrative office and religious school for monks. Visit the National museum that exhibits a great collection of thankas, antiques, paintings and statues. Proceed towards propitious Kyichu Lhakhang, a sacred monument located down the left foot of a treacherous ogress, built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. It is one of the 108 temples built by him to control the Demon that rested across the Himalayan region.

In the afternoon, continue your drive towards Thimpu which is approx 65 km from Paro. Cherish the view of Paro and Thimpu rivers on your way.

On arrival check in at your pre booked hotel. Overnight will be at the hotel.

Day 03: Sightseeing in Thimphu

http://www.elandholidays.com/bhutan/images/thimphu.jpgAfter early morning breakfast at the hotel, you will leave for a day long tour of Thimphu - the capital city. Thimphu sheltered small settlements for long time and wasn’t really developed until it was announced the capital of the kingdom by the king in 1216. The city today houses many attractions to lure the huge influx of travelers every year.

Your acquaintance with the cultural city will start by visiting the National Memorial Chorten - a magnificent stupa that was built in 1974 in reminiscence of the third king. Located near Jangchhub Lam, evening prayers at the stupa are worth observing. Next you will visit National Library, the National Institute of Zorig Chusum and Folk Heritage Museum to get a deeper understanding of the culture and history of the country. Later in the afternoon excursion will head towards Changangkha Lhakhang. Perched on a ridge above Thimphu, it is a fortress likes temple being one of the oldest in the Thimphu Valley. To provide you a bird’s eye view of the capital, you will be taken to the BBS tower followed by a visit to nunnery temple and Trashi Chhoe Dzong which was built by Shabdrung Rinpoche in the 18th century to house government officials. It is popularly known as “the fortress of the glorious religion” and is an abode to the throne room of his Majesty the King of Bhutan and other Government offices.

Overnight stay will be at hotel.

Day 04: Thimphu-Paro (Tiger's Nest Hike)

http://www.elandholidays.com/bhutan/images/tiger-nest-hike.jpgEarly morning breakfast will be followed by drive to Paro to enjoy trekking to the Taktsang Monastery or Tigers nest viewpoint. With an average walking speed, it takes around 3-4 hours at an average to reach the monastery through the well maintained uphill pathway. With beautiful pine forest adorning the trail, you will notice beautiful fluttering prayer flags increasing up the spiritual feel of the region.

Taktsang is one of the holiest places in Bhutan. Its connection with Guru Rinpoche, who is believed to have flown to Paro Taktsang on the back of a flying tiger Dorji Drolo, makes it a place of great veneration. Evening will be at leisure.

Come back to the hotel for the overnight.

Day 05: Departure from Paro
